G.C Stockman House |
In 1992 the River City Society for Historical Preservation decided to save the historic Frank Lloyd Wright-designed G.C. Stockman House, which had been slated for demolition. The building was moved to a new site and restored, and has served as the inspiration for many community efforts to save architectural treasures. Prairie Architects acted as restoration consultants for the interior restoration and as consultants for interpretation, providing guidance to a project fueled by a state Historic Resource Development Program grant and a lot of volunteer elbow grease. The project began in a small way with individual community members stepping forth to help in organization, funding, and physical labor and resulted in a project providing great pride and national interest in the community, including a major story in the New York Times. Awards: River City Historic Preservation Society Friend of Historic Preservation. |
